Wild Plum Cobbler (with Honey & Spiced Rum)
Gathered by hand. Baked with love. Best served warm with someone you adore.
A few days ago, I was on a slow walk through nature—barely looking for anything, but somehow being led. I stumbled across a tree bursting with tiny, blushing fruit. Wild plums. Tart, sweet, sun-kissed, and full of wild magic.
I felt like some ancient version of myself—the gatherer, the homemaker, the woman who finds joy in the little gifts from the earth. So of course, I picked them by the handful (with full permission from the tree, of course) and brought them home.
What happened next? A buttery, golden cobbler—infused with honey, cinnamon, and a splash of spiced rum. This dessert tastes like summer sunsets and childhood memories. Rustic. Fragrant. Not too sweet. Just right. Let’s make it:
🧺 What You’ll Need (makes 6 servings):
For the Plum Filling:
3–4 cups wild plums, pitted and halved
¼ cup raw honey (or maple syrup)
1–2 tbsp spiced rum (optional but magical)
1 tsp ground cinnamon
Pinch of sea salt
1 tbsp arrowroot starch or cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
1 tbsp butter, for greasing the pan
For the Cobbler Topping:
1 cup flour
¼ cup unrefined coconut sugar or maple sugar
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp sea salt
¼ cup cold butter or coconut oil
¼ cup milk of choice
1 tsp vanilla extract
Optional Add-ins for texture:
2 tbsp rolled oats
2 tbsp chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans work beautifully)
🥣 How to Make It
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Prep the plums. In a mixing bowl, toss the plums with honey, rum, cinnamon, sea salt, and starch (if using). Let it sit while you prep the topping.
Grease your baking dish with butter and pour in the plum mixture. Spread evenly.
Make the cobbler topping. In another bowl, mix flour, coconut sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. Add the cold butter or coconut oil and cut it into the dry ingredients using your fingers or a fork until crumbly.
Stir in the milk and vanilla to make a thick batter. Fold in oats and nuts if using.
Spoon the topping over the plum mixture—it doesn’t need to be perfect. Let it be rustic and golden.
Bake for 30–35 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and the plum juices are bubbling around the edges.
Let it cool for 10–15 minutes. Then serve warm, with a drizzle of cream, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, or just as is.
🌿 Gather, Bake, Share
This cobbler is best shared, but also perfect for solo summer evenings with bare feet and a quiet heart. May it remind you that you don’t always have to search for magic. Sometimes, it finds you.
Host Mode On. 💛
Tag me if you make it—I’d love to see your wild creations.
