Smoke on Water: A Cocktail So Good It Feels Like a Detox (Kind Of)

I found this cocktail on a night out for my sister’s birthday at Varley Bar in Salt Lake City—and let me tell you, we were both immediately obsessed. Like “should we order a pitcher?” level obsessed.

It’s called the Smoke on Water, and while the name sounds mysterious (and maybe like a Lana Del Rey B-side), the flavor is pure refreshment. Think: spa day meets rooftop party, with a little smoky drama on the side.

Smoke on Water – My Recreated Recipe

I had to try and recreate it at home—and honestly? She slaps.

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz Blanco Tequila (or mezcal for some smoke)

  • 1 oz Vodka

  • 1 oz fresh cucumber juice

  • 1 oz aloe vera juice

  • ½ oz lime juice

  • ½ oz simple syrup (or sweetener of choice)

  • ¼ tsp activated charcoal powder (just a little!)

  • Ice

  • Cucumber slice or mint sprig, for garnish

🍸 Instructions:

1.Shake everything up in a cocktail shaker with ice.

2.Strain into a chilled glass over more ice.

3.Garnish and serve like you know what you’re doing. (You do.)

💡 Host Mode Tip:

Serve this as your signature welcome drink at your next dinner party. The color alone will have people talking—but the taste? Unreal. [P.S. save this one for Halloween and add dry ice for the smoke effect!]

Cheers, Ilda
